2021 Stella Prize shortlist

Stella Prize badgeI’m a bit late with this, because, well, life keeps getting in the way, but in the interests of following this prize on my blog, here’s the Stella Prize shortlist anyway.

It was announced yesterday and the winner of the $50,000 prize for Australian women writers will be named next month.

The titles on the shortlist are as follows:

I have already read The Animals in that Country which is an extraordinary novel and one that I would be very pleased to see take out the top prize. I do, however, plan on reading as many of these titles as possible before the winner is named. Please keep popping back here as I will update the hyperlinks above as and when I review each title.

The winner will be announced in Melbourne on 22 April.

You can read the official announcement here.

Please note, all books appear to be available to purchase in the UK and USA.

        1. This will make you laugh, but I’m going to use my favourite word here: that book looks BONKERS!

Not come across it before. I think I need to be added to their mailing list. I’m yet to read a Transit Lounge book I’ve not liked…It greatly amuses me that they are based in Yarraville, which is where my dad was raised and my grandparents immigrated to (from Glasgow) in the 1950s. I have fond memories of catching the bus with my grandmother to Stephens Street… it was always such a noisy, smelly place but full of so many fascinating shops run by Vietnamese people, Italians and so on… I struggle to get my head around the fact the suburb has gentrified.

      1. Ok I’ve just choked on my morning cuppa. You can tell I was reading your post before my brain was fully awake. Had totally overlooked the fact the prize is for female writers…. I think I need a lie down in a dark room to recover.
